Divorce court costs are set to increase on Monday 21st March 2016. Currently the court fee to submit a divorce petition is £410 but last year the Ministry of Justice warned there were plans to increase court fees by as much as 80%. After much opposition it was agreed the divorce fee would increase by a third to £550. Court fees generally have increased by 10% but fees for Family have increased considerably. The cost of a Consent Order will rise from £50 to £100 and the cost for an application without notice to the other party will increase from £155 to £255. There will be continue to be a fee remission for the most vulnerable, such as those in low wage households. Edit as at 01/04/2016: the court has since clarified that the costs for Consent Orders and applications without notice have not increased, despite what has been announced. The court claims that these fees (application by consent and an appliction without notice) apply to other applications (such as for civil or crime) and the only increase in family law is to the divorce petition.
